Romanian champion CSU Asesoft Ploiesti added veteran leadership and a lockdown defender at once by signing swingman Michalis Pelekanos to a one-year deal. Pelekanos (1.98 meters, 33 years old) is a former Euroleague champion with nine seasons and 105 games in Europe’s top competition under his belt. He won the Turkish Airlines Euroleague in 2012 with Olympiacos Piraeus. This season will be his first competing in the Eurocup. Pelekanos spent the past two seasons with Aris Thessaloniki; he averaged 12.6 points and 3.9 rebounds in 25 Greek League contests last season. He grew up with Peristeri and also played for AEK Athens, Panellinios and Maroussi in Greece as well as Real Madrid in Spain. He was also a member of the Greek national team at EuroBasket 2007 and at the 2008 Olympic Games.
