Herbalife Gran Canaria Las Palmas signs forward Summers

Herbalife Gran Canaria Las Palmas bolstered its frontcourt weeks ahead of the Eurocup return by inking versatile forward DaJuan Summers to a one-year deal on Tuesday night. Summers (2.03 meters, 26 years old) arrives from Budivelnik Kiev, to which he helped win the Ukrainian League title and reach the Eurocup quarterfinals last season. He averaged 12.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.5 steals in 10 Turkish Airlines Euroleague games last season. When Budivelnik joined the 2013-14 Eurocup, Summers boosted its numbers to 13.5 points and 6.9 rebounds in 10 games. Summers played briefly for Montepaschi Siena in the 2011-12 campaign, and took part in one Euroleague game. He spent most of his professional career in the NBA, where he suited up for Detroit, New Orleans and Los Angeles Clippers a total of 83 times in four seasons. He averaged 18 points and 7.6 rebounds for Maine of the NBA D-League and was named to the 2012-13 All-NBA D-League Third Team.
