Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius named Marcelo Nicola as its new head coach. He takes over for Virginijus Seskus, who remains with the club as an assistant coach. Nicola, 43, enjoyed a stellar career as a player in Spain and Italy; he was an All-Euroleague Second Team selection for the 2001-02 season, when he played for Benetton Treviso. Nicola retired as a player in 2007 and began coaching, first as an assistant at Benetton and later with UCAM Murcia in Spain. Nicola was Murcia’s head coach for the second half of last season. He will guide Rytas in the Eurocup Eighthfinals against Pinar Karsiyaka Izmir.
