Days before the start of the Eurocup semifinals, Khimki Moscow Region announced a new agreement with combo guard Petteri Koponen to stay together until the end of the 2016-17 season. Koponen is in his third season with Khimki and is averaging 13.7 points on 46.1% three-point shooting and 3.3 assists in 20 Eurocup games this season. Koponen started his career with Honka in his native Finland and also played for Virtus Bologna before joining Khimki in 2012. He is also a regular member and the leader of the Finnish national team, which made him a sports icon in his country. He won back-to-back Finnish titles with Honka in 2008 and 2009, lifting the EuroChallenge trophy with Virtus in 2009. Khimki also announced a contract extension with team captain Sergey Monia weeks ago.
