Le Mans Sarthe signs former Eurocup champ Gelabale

Le Mans Sarthe Basket signed veteran forward Mickael Gelabale, one of the most-accomplished players in French basketball, to a two-year contract. Gelabale (2.01 meters, 32 years old) is a former Eurocup champion and has won the European Championship with the French national team. He arrives from Limoges CSP, which he helped to the French league crown last season. Gelabale’s impressive resume also includes a Spanish League crown and a EuroBasket silver and Bronze medal as well as a FIBA World Cup bronze medal.

Gelabale played a total of 10 Eurocup games last season between Strasbourg and Limoges. He averaged 3 points and 3.5 rebounds in 20 minutes per game in four regular season games for Strasbourg. In the Last 32 with Limoges, he tallied 5.5 points and 2 boards per game. In the French League, Gelabale posted 6.4 points and 2.9 rebounds in 19 games for Limoges. In his 14 seasons as a pro, he has played for four French clubs – Cholet Basket, ASVEL Lyon Villeurbanne, Strasbourg and Limoges. Gelabale has also suited up for Real Madrid and Valencia Basket of Spain, Cevevita Zagreb in Croatia and Khimki Moscow Region, with whom he won the Eurocup title in 2012. He also played for Seattle and Minnesota of the NBA.
