Steaua CSM EximBank Bucharest signed veteran point guard Marko Marinovic to lead the club’s attack on its maiden voyage in the Eurocup. Marinovic (1.83 meters, 32 years old) is a former Eurocup champion and could become the competition’s all-time leader in assists this coming season. He arrives from Union Olimpija Ljubljana, with whom he ranked seventh in the Eurocup with 5.4 assists per game last season. Marinovic’s 352 career assists are second in the Eurocup history behind only Stefan Markovic. He also averaged 9.9 points per game in the Eurocup with Olimpija and 10.7 points and 4.9 assists in the Adriatic League.
Marinovic began his career with Borac Cacak as a teenager and has also played for FMP, Crvena Zvezda Belgrade and Radnicki Kraguejevac in his native Serbia, Akasvayu Girona, Vive Menorca and Valencia in Spain, ALBA Berlin in Germany, Krasnie Krylia Samara and Enisey Krasnoyarsk in Russia, Levski Sofia in Bulgaria and Olimpija in Slovenia. Among his career highlights have been winning the Eurocup with Valencia in 2010, the FIBA EuroCup with Girona in 2007 and the Adriatic League with FMP in 2006.
