Gran Canaria keeps veteran guard Oliver
Herbalife Gran Canaria Las Palmas reached an agreement with point guard Albert Oliver to keep working together next season, the club announced Tuesday. Oliver (1.87 meters, 37 years old) averaged 7.8 points and 3.3 assists in 24 Eurocup games last season, helping Gran Canaria reach the Finals. He has also played for Joventut Badalona, Valencia Basket, Estudiantes Madrid, Basquet Manresa and Caprabo Lleida of Spain. He has played four Eurocup seasons with three different teams - Valencia, Estudiantes and Gran Canaria - accumulating 417 points and 172 assists in 66 games and reaching at least the quarterfinals with all of them. Oliver helped Lleida win the Spanish second division title in 2001. "I always said that my first option was to stay in Gran Canaria. First, my family feels really good in here since Day 1 and I am also really happy with the club, my teammates and the coaching staff, led by Aito Garcia Reneses," Oliver said. "We come off a great season. It will be difficult to match our Eurocup results but I am really looking forward to keep doing well."
