Union Olimpija Ljubljana added depth to its frontline by signing big man Ronalds Zakis on a one-year deal, club announced on Wednesday. Zakis (2.07 meters, 28 years old) arrives from Latvian side VEF Riga. In Eurocup action last season he averaged 9.2 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. Zakis averaged 6.8 points and 2.6 rebounds per game in VTB League and he posted 6.8 points and 2.6 rebounds per contest helping VEF win the Latvian League title. Zakis grew up and started his career with Ventspils, and has spent 10 seasons with the club before joining VEF. He is also a member of Latvian national team, and has played for Latvian U18 and U20 categories.
