The third round of the Eurocup regular season proved to be another thrilling ride in which all groups are starting to take shape en route to the Last 32. When the dust from battles all over the continent settled, Zabian Dowdell of Zenit St. Petersburg emerged as the winning player with the highest index rating performance, a whopping 51, earning him weekly MVP honors. Dowdell had an almost perfect night with 24 points - 5 of 6 twos, 2 of 2 threes, 8 of 8 free throws -, 4 rebounds, 14 assists, 5 steals and 7 drawn fouls for the 51 index, tying for the third best performance ever with Vladimir Golubovic in February of 2014. Completing the flurry of good individual performances this week, Milos Borisov of Szolnoki Olaj racked up a 40 index rating performance thanks to his 22 points and 10 rebounds. Maciej Lampe of Besiktas Sompo Japan Istanbul had a 37 and Nathan Wolters, also of Besiktas, added a 36.
Individual highs: Dowdell ties third best mark ever with his 14 assists
Wolters and Dowdell were, unsurprisingly, the two top scorers this week with 27 and 24 points respectively. Jimmy Baron of Proximus Spirou Charleroi and Tarence Kinsey of Trabzonspor Medical Park netted 23 apiece for their respective teams. Lampe was also huge under the glasses with his 15 rebounds, the most this week. He was followed closely by four players with as many as 13 boards apiece: JaJuan Johnson of Krasny Oktyabr Volgograd, Loukas Mavrokefalidis of AEK Athens, Titus Nicoara of Steaua CSM Eximbank BUcharest and Kevin Tumba of Spirou. Assists were no contest this week, as Dowdell and his 14 decisive passes were no match for the rest of players. These 14 assists also tie for the third best mark ever in that aspect in the competition, the record being 16 by Omar Cook with Buducnost VOLI Podgorica in November of 2014. Dowdell also led all players in the steals department with his 5, while Augustin Rubit of ratiopharm Ulm was a giant under the boards and stop as many as 5 shots with as many blocks.
