Jimmy McKinney of Telekom Baskets Bonn entered the Eurocup history books on Wednesday when he tied the competition record for the most three-pointers made in a single game. McKinney sank 9 of 12 shots from downtown, including an off-balance effort in the closing seconds of regulation that tied the game at 87-87 and forced overtime. Eventually Bonn fell 98-96 at the hands of Dolomiti Energia Trento. McKinney tied Ruben Douglas and Marko Popovic, who had previously knocked down 9 threes in a Eurocup game. Douglas set the record with a 9-for-12 effort for Pamesa Valencia against Khimki Moscow Region in December 2007. Popovic attempted 14 shots in making 9 for Unics Kazan in November 2009. Bonn came within a single three-point shot of tying the team record for triples in a single game. Unics made 20 in the same game against Besiktas ColaTurka Istanbul in which Popovic made 9 triples.
McKinney, 32, finished the game with a career-high 29 points. He is averaging 11 points on 52.9% three-point shooting (27 of 51) for Bonn this season, which is his fourth in the Eurocup. He previously played two for Fraport Skyliners and one for s.Oliver Baskets Wurzburg. This is his 10th season playing professional basketball in Germany after a college career at the University of Missouri.
