Galatasaray adds Jerrells, Davis for Eurocup stretch run

Galatasaray Odeabank Istanbul ensured that it will be ready for the stretch run in the Eurocup by signing a pair of veterans, guard Curtis Jerrells and big man Chuck Davis. Jerrells (1.85 meters, 28 years old) will help fill in for Errick McCollum, who is second in the competition in scoring with 19.3 points per game. McCollum will likely miss the remainder of the Last 32 with a broken hand. Jerrells arrives from Unics Kazan, but he has not played this season. In 2014-15, he averaged 10.6 points and 2.9 assists in 10 Turkish Airlines Euroleague games, 10 points and 2.3 assists in 12 Eurocup games and 9.8 points and 4 assists over 29 VTB United League games. Galatasaray will be his third Istanbul-based club after previous stints with Fenerbahce and Besiktas. Jerrells made his Euroleague debut with Partizan Belgrade in 2010-11 season and also played one season with EA7 Emporio Armani Milan; he helped both teams win their domestic league titles. Jerrells also spent time with Austin and Maine of the NBA Development League.

Davis (2.02 meters, 31 years old) already made his Galatasaray debut with 7 points and 3 rebounds in a friendly game against TED Kolejliler Ankara on Saturday. A veteran of Turkish basketball, Davis played the past six seasons for Banvit Bandirma, including a total of 64 Eurocup games. He helped Banvit reach last season’s Eurocup semifinals by averaging 12.8 points and 4.5 rebounds over 21 games. Davis debuted professionally with Ankara in 2006, played one season in Belgium for Ostend and another in Turkey for Aliaga Belediyesi before joining Banvit. Davis is sixth on the Euocup’s career scoring charts with 1,056 points, eighth with 65 blocked shots and 14th with 356 rebounds.
