AEK signs Vasileiadis, Owens to two-year deals

AEK Athens kept working to put together a very competitive roster by inking veteran shooter Kostas Vasileiadis and big man Josh Owens to respective two-year deals this weekend. Vasileadis (2.00 meters, 32 years old) arrives from Rio Natura Monbus Obradoiro, where he averaged 6.3 points and 3 rebounds in 4 Spanish League games last season. He started the 2015-16 season with PAOK Thessaloniki, averaging 13.4 points and 4.8 rebounds in 13 Eurocup games before moving to Obradoiro. He led the 2015-16 Eurocup in free throw percentage, hitting all of his 46 attempts. Vasileiadis started his career with PAOK and also played for Unicaja Malaga and Bilbao Basket of Spain, Olympiacos Pireaus of Greece and Anadolu Efes Istanbul of Turkey. He helped Unicaja win the Spanish League title in 2006 and reach the Euroleague Final Four in 2007. Vasileiadis also reached the 2012 Euroleague playoffs and the 2013 Eurocup final with Bilbao, and helped the Greek U18 win a bronze medal at the 2003 World Championships.

Owens (2.03 meters, 27 years old) arrives from Umana Reyer Venice, where he averaged 9.7 points on 65% two-point shooting and 5.3 rebounds in 16 Eurocup games last season. He graduated from Stanford University and started his professional career with Idaho of the D-League. Owens has also played for Hapoel Tel Aviv of Israel and Dolomiti Energia Trento of Italy before joining Venice. He helped Stanford win the NIT Tournament title in 2012.
