Unicaja Malaga reached a new agreement with shooting guard Jamar Smith to keep him in the team until the end of the 2017-18 season, the club announced Thursday. Smith (1.91 meters, 29 years old) averaged 7.8 points and 2.4 assists in 15 Turkish Airlines Euroleague games this season, helping his team reach the Top 16. He had joined Unicaja from Limoges CSP, which he helped win the French championship in the 2014-15 season. Smith averaged 14.0 points on 45.8% three-point shooting in 10 Euroleague regular season games that season and ranked second in the competition with 27 three-pointers made over that period. He also averaged 3.1 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game. Smith posted 11.3 points and 3.0 assists in six Eurocup games also in the 2014-15 season, and had 12.8 points and 3.0 assists in the French League. Smith started his professional career with Prostejov in the Czech Republic in the 2011-12 season. He has also played for Hapoel Galil Gilboa in Israel and made his Euroleague debut with Germany’s Brose Baskets Bamberg in the 2013-14 campaign.
