Khimki Moscow Region has signed guard Viacheslav Zaytsev to a contract for the coming season with an option for the 2017-18 campaign, the club announced Friday. Zaytsev (1.91 meters, 26 years old) arrives from Krasny Oktaybr Volgograd, for whom he averaged 7.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 10 Eurocup games in a reserve role last season. He also tallied 10.9 points, 4.7 boards, 3.2 assists and 1.5 steals per game for Krasny Oktaybr in the VTB United League. Zaytsev joined the Khimki youth department when he turned 17 and played two years for the junior team and three seasons with the senior team. In that time he debuted in both the Eurocup and the Euroleague, won the 2011 VTB League title and reached the 2011 Russian League finals in 2011. Zaytsev then played four seasons for Enisey Krasnoyarsk before joining Krasny Oktaybr. Zaytsev has also been a member of the Russian U18 and U20 national teams.
"When I received the invitation to return to Khimki, I immediately agreed," Zaytsev said. "I have already played in Khimki and I know the club structure. This is a very good team with big ambitions and I am very happy to be back in the Moscow Region. I will follow the coach's instructions and do everything possible to help my team win. Last season in Krasny Oktyabr was one of the best in my career, I played a lot, and the coach trusted me. I think that everything was fine, but I need to move on. We will try to achieve the club goals and will fight to the maximum in all tournaments."
