Nizhny tabs Stalbergs as new head coach
Nizhny Novgorod announced Thursday that Arturs Stalbergs has been promoted to the team's head coach spot. Stalbergs, age 31, has no previous head coaching experience at the club level but led the Latvian U20 national team in 2013 and 2014, winning a silver medal at the 2013 U20 European Championships. A former player, Stalbergs has been working for Nizhny as Ainars Bagatskis's assistant coach for the last two years. He has also worked for Liepajas Lauvas of his native Latvia, MBC Mykolaiv of Ukraine and the Latvian national team. "I would like to thank the club for giving me a chance to prove myself in this new position. The decision to stay in Nizhny Novgorod is certainly one of the most important ones in my career," Stalbergs said. "I am very pleased to be a head coach for the first time in this club. I would also like to thank Ainars Bagatskis for inciting me to Nizhny Novgorod, giving me the opportunity to work here."
