Nizhny adds experienced big man Gubanov
Nizhny Novgorod added size and experience to its roster by inking big man Petr Gubanov to a two-year deal on Saturday. Gubanov (2.06 meters, 29 years old) arrives from Unics Kazan, where he averaged 5.2 points and 3 rebounds in 6 Eurocup games last season, in which he helped his team reach the VTB League finals. He already played for Nizhny in the 2013-14 season, averaging 5.5 points in 17 games, helping his team reach the Eurocup semifinals and the VTB League finals. Gubanov grew up with CSK VVS Samara and also played for several Russian clubs, such as Lobnya Moscow Region, Khimki Moscow Region, Dynamo Moscow and Enisey Krasnoyarsk. Gubanov has been a member of the Russian national team. "I am glad to be back in Nizhny Novgorod, because I only have fond memories of both the team and the city," Gubanov said. "Everyone knows that our team has always been famous for its dedication and fighting spirit - and we will keep being like that next season."
