Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius bolstered its backcourt with the signing of point guard Josh Akognon, who started the season in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague with Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz. Akognon (1.80 meters, 30 years old) averaged 3.8 points and 1.2 assists over 11:31 minutes in five EuroLeague appearances and 12.6 points and 1 assist in 18 minutes over five games in the Spanish League for Baskonia. Akognon has played professionally since 2009, when he debuted with Kalev/Cramo in Estonia. He has played for a total of 12 clubs in six countries, including Partizan Belgrade in Serbia, Dinamo Sassari in Italy and Dallas in the NBA. Akognon was a member of the Nigerian national team that played at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, where he averaged 10.6 points per game.
