Lietkabelis names Stalbergs head coach
Lietkabelis Panevezys named Arturs Stalbergs as its head coach for the 2017-18 season. He replaces Kazys Maksvytis on the Lietkabelis bench. Lietkabelis also announced that Gintaras Kadziulis and Jurica Zuza will serve as Stalbergs's assistant coaches. Stalbergs, 32, arrives from Russian side Nizhny Novgorod, which he led to the 7DAYS EuroCup Top 16 and to a ninth-place finish in the VTB United League last season. It was Stalbergs's first head coaching gig after two seasons as an assistant at Nizhny and time with Liepajas Lauvas and Valmiera of Latvia, MBC Mykolaiv of Ukraine and the Latvian national team. Stalbergs has also served as an assistant coach with the Latvian national team. A former player with Liepajas Lauvas and VEF Riga, Stalbergs played for Latvia at EuroBasket 2009 before retiring a year later to pursue a coaching career.
