Artland Dragons finalized its roster for the start of the 2012-13 season by signing veteran guard Kristaps Valters, who takes the roster spot of injured scorer Demond Mallet. Valters (1.91 meters, 31 years old) agreed to a two-month deal with an option to further extend it. This marks Valters’s second stint in Germant after starring for EWE Baskets Oldenburg between 2004 and 2006. He arrives from Spanish side Unicaja Malaga, with whom Valters averaged 8.2 points and 3.1 assists in a reserve role for the club in 13 Turkish Airlines Euroleague games last season. Valters made his pro debut in 1998 with ASK Broceni of his native Latvia and has since played for numerous clubs across Europe. He has suited up for Skonto Riga in Latvia, Muratpasa Antalya in Turkey, Panionios in Greece, Snaidero Udine in Italy, Triumph Lyubersty in Russia and Fuenlabrada and DKV Joventut in Spain.
