Aaron Craft stepped up in a big way as he helped Dolomiti Energia Trento snap a five-game losing streak and stay alive in the 7DAYS EuroCup by beating LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne in his first European game back with the Italian club.
Craft collected 11 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists in the 79-77 win over ASVEL. The 27-year-old was the hero of the night with 5 points in the final 70 seconds. He tied that game at 72-72 with a layup with 1:10 to play and the burned A.J. Slaughter for a reverse layup with 50 seconds remaining. Craft was fouled on the ensuing possession and added a free throw. ASVEL hung around and down 3 in the closing seconds with Slaughter at the line, the guard was instructed to make the first and intentionally miss the second with the hope that a teammate could grab the offensive rebound, score and force overtime. Instead, Craft came to the rescue for Trento. Not only did he corral the missed second free throw with 4.1 seconds left, but made an impossibly heady play by tossing the ball the length of the court to run out the rest of the clock and secure the win.
Craft played for Trento in the 2016-17 season and averaged 10.3 points and 4.8 assists in 44 Italian League games. Earlier this month, the point guard agreed to a deal for the remainder of the season after playing four Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games for Buducnost VOLI Podgorica.
