Finals matchups: Thomas vs. Sikma at power forward

One of the head-to-head matchups to keep an eye on in the 7DAYS EuroCup Finals starting on April 9 is at power forward, where ALBA Berlin's Luke Sikma has been doing extraordinary things all season, while Valencia's Will Thomas has been a rock on both ends of the floor and a late-game killer, too.

Luke Sikma, ALBA Berlin

ALBA's versatile power forward has been at the heart of the team's accomplishments this season as the team's only full-time starter through 21 game. His performance index rating of 17.3 ranks third in the EuroCup among eligible players, as do his 6.7 rebounds per game. He is also sixth in steals (1.6) and 11th in assists (4.3) among all EuroCup players, which adds up to a truly unique speciment at power forward. Sikma also spent two seasons playing for Valencia before he joined ALBA last season, so he knows his finals opponents better than anyone.

Will Thomas, Valencia Basket

Since joining the starting lineup in Round 5 of the regular season, this veteran power player has done more in under 23 minutes per game than anyone could expect. His 14.1 PIR average is the best on a team that has won all 13 games that he has started. Thomas is Valencia's second-best scorer and offensive-rebounder, but one reason he is always in the game at the end is his strong defense and knack for big plays, as when he scored 6 of his 7 points in the final 5 minutes of semifinals Game 1, a tough 69-64 home win over UNICS Kazan.
