One of the head-to-head matchups to keep an eye on in the 7DAYS EuroCup Finals starting on April 9 is at point guard, where Sam Van Rossom has been steady as rock for the second-best defensive team in the competition, while Peyton Siva has come back from two in-season injuries to lead ALBA's second-ranked offense.
Sam Van Rossom, Valencia
At age 32, Van Rossom is having one of the best seasons of his solid career. He ranks seventh in the EuroCup in assists (4.9 spg.) and is shooting the ball with great percentages (60.3% 2FG, 43.5% 3FG, 86.7% FT), averaging 9.1 points and a performance index rating of 12.9. Van Rossom has been outstanding in key moments of the season, scoring 12 points in the Top 16 finale, which gave Valencia home-court advantage throughout the playoffs, and getting 15 in Game 2 of the semifinals against UNICS Kazan. In his third final, all with Valencia, Van Rossom looks for his second title.
Peyton Siva, ALBA
It took Siva 11 EuroCup games this season to make a lot of noise. Siva earned both quarterfinals MVP and semifinals MVP honors, averaging 15.8 points and a PIR of 19.6 in those five games. Peyton Siva is the competition's assists leader (8.5 apg.) and also ranks first in PIR average (18.6) despite battling two different injuries during the season. Siva is averaging 15.3 points on 51.7% three-point shooting (31-of-60) and 3.7 fouls drawn. After two seasons working together, his connection with head coach Garcia Reneses is perfect, and it is paying off.
