The new 7DAYS EuroCup season started with a bang on Tuesday and Wednesday. When the dust settled, three players had emerged as MVPs after leading their respective teams to victories with the highest performance index ratings of the week. Chris Babb of EuroCup debutante Promitheas Patras, Kenny Chery of Nanterre 92 and Greg Whittington of Galatasaray Doga Sigorta Istanbul each had a PIR of 29 to share the MVP of the Round honor. Babb led Patras to its first EuroCup win ever, 55-88 on the road against another debutante, Maccabi Rishon Lezion, with 19 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals. Chery led Nanterre past Joventut Badalona 85-78 by putting up 24 points, 9 assists, 3 rebounds and 3 steals. Last but not least, Whittington paced Galatasaray's 64-70 road win at Dolomiti Energia Trento with 18 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. The other two players completing the list of top five individual performances of the round were Rasid Mahalbasic of EWE Baskets Oldenburg and Eimantas Bendzius of Rytas Vilnius with respective PIRs of 27.
Individual highs: Thomas shines at the glass with 13 boards
Bendzius started the season on a high note as he was the top scorer of the round with 27 points against Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar. Rashawn Thomas of Partizan NIS Belgrade was the best player under the glasses in the opening round with a total of 13 rebounds, 9 defensive and 4 offensive. Killian Hayes of ratiopharm Ulm joined Chery as best passers this week, with 9 assists each. On the defensive end, Aaron Craft of Trento had as many as 5 steals, a career-high for him, while four players had 3 blocks each: Octavius Ellis of Patras, Jonathan Hamilton and Bonzie Colson of Darussafaka Tekfen Istanbul, and Julian Gamble of Segafredo Virtus Bologna.
