Super-sub Gordic had all the answers for Partizan

Whenever Partizan NIS Belgrade was in trouble in its 7DAYS EuroCup showdown with Rytas Vilnius, Nemanja Gordic was there to deliver as the Serbian side’s super-sub. Gordic came off Coach Andrea Trinchieri’s bench and flirted with a triple-double before finishing with 13 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists in a 61-66 road victory over Rytas to improve to 3-0 in Group B.

The 31-year-old Gordic has been an excellent reserve in his first season back in the black and white of Partizan since the 2012-13 campaign. He started the season averaging 9.5 points, 2.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists in the first two games while hitting 8-of-15 shots from the floor.

He was very much a floor general against Rytas. He was brought on late in the first quarter with the team trailing 16-9. He assisted on Partizan’s next three baskets and scored himself in cutting it to a 1-point game at the end of the quarter. He added another score and assist to knot the game 21-21 early in the next frame.

Late in the third quarter, Rytas had just put together an 11-0 run to erase Partizan’s 9-point advantage and go ahead. Gordic, however, scored the final 4 points of the quarter to put the visitors back ahead. Gordic showed up big in the final minutes as well, first knocking down a jumper after a pair of Partizan offensive rebounds to make it 56-60. And after Rytas trimmed it to 59-60, Gordic delivered the dagger three-pointer with 27 seconds remaining.

Partizan has high hopes this season with Trinchieri at the helm, and having a player like Gordic on board with three seasons of experience in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague over the last five years will be invaluable - as he showed in the win over Rytas.
