After MoraBanc Andorra watched ratiopharm Ulm finish erasing a 22-point deficit and take the lead, it was the bench duo of Tyson Perez and Nacho Llovet who helped stabilize Andorra to pick up a big road victory. Llovet was one of five Andorra players in double figures with 10 points while Perez only scored 6 points in the team’s 87-99 win in Germany. But the duo played a leading role in Andorra’s decisive run to put the game away.
Andorra led 28-50 in the second quarter and the margin was 18 points in the third quarter. Ulm fought back to within 73-74 after 30 minutes and Killian Hayes drained a three-pointer to give Ulm the lead, 76-75, early in the fourth. Who was it at the other end to score his first points of the game and put Andorra back ahead? Perez.
Moments later, Llovet came into the game for Dejan Musli and then immediately scored to push the lead to 76-80. After Hayes hit another three, Perez picked the pocket of Isaiah Briscoe and threw down a big dunk. Llovet followed with a free throw and then rebounded his own second missed foul shot to extend a possession that ended with 2 more Llovet free throws. The reserves hooked up for Andorra’s next score with Llovet feeding Perez for another big dunk. Altogether, Llovet and Perez combined for 11 points in Andorra’s 3-15 run to blow the game open 79-90 with under 4 minutes left.
For the season, Perez is now averaging 7.7 points and he showed against Ulm that he can have an impact with 7 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal. Llovet scored in double figures the second time this season - both coming against Ulm - and has been worth 5.4 points per game. But he also does the little things, such as 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and 1 block against Ulm.
Perez and Llovet may not get the big headlines, but they showed against Ulm that they can play a major role in helping Andorra win games.
