Buckner, Mosley fight for field goal mark

Times are a-changing in basketball, as more and more big men spread the floor with their three-point shooting skills. As the number of three-point shots taken per game increases every season, it is harder to find old-school centers to work their way into the paint to score down low.

Fortunately for fans of old-school post skills, there are some exceptions in the modern game and one of them is center Eric Buckner of AS Monaco, who is trying to become the most effective scorer in a 7DAYS EuroCup history season. Ever.

Buckner didn't miss a field goal attempt until his fourth EuroCup game this season, hitting his first 15 two-point shots of the campaign. By the end of the regular season, Buckner had made 44 of 55 two-point shots in all sorts of ways - alley-oop dunks, jump hooks, layups off pick-and-roll plays, mid-range jumpers and low post moves.

In terms of field goal percentage, it was the second-best mark in the competition ever for a player attempting at least 50 two-point shots. Primoz Brezec of Krasnye Krylia made 47 of 55 field-goal attempts (85.4%) during the 2010-11 season.

Buckner has remained highly effective in the Top 16, making 22 of 31 field-goal attempts (71.0%). For the season, Buckner is at 66-of-86 two-point shooting (76.7%). No player has ever needed fewer shots to reach that number of baskets - in the 2018-19 season, Giorgi Shermadini of Unicaja Malaga needed 89 shots to get its 66th basket. He finished the season shooting 90 for 121 (74.4%).

Even though Bucker has been truly effective, it is not guaranteed that he will have the best field-goal percentage at the end of the season. William Mosley of Partizan NIS Belgrade is right behind him with a 75.9% mark, having made 41 of 54 shots until now.

Partizan will keep fighting for EuroCup glory in the playoffs and Monaco has very good chances to also get to the next round. It is even a possibility that the two teams could face each other in the quarterfinals! This battle could continue for a few more games and be a record-setting one.
