It might be only the second week of October, but Germani Brescia felt a "little under pressure" as if it badly needed a win in its 7DAYS EuroCup home opener. And after 45 minutes of hard-fought basketball and mostly playing from behind on Wednesday night, they finally got one. Two reasons for the win were the massive contributions from 35-year old center Christian Burns and 37-year old swingman David Moss.

Brescia did itself no favors on Wednesday night, making it an uphill battle from the start. Brescia found itself down 13 points late in the first quarter, but rallied in the second quarter and went up 56-50 in the third. However, Ulm answered with a 4-17 spurt to end the third quarter, and still led 66-73 with 5 minutes left in regulation.

"All we were thinking was to get a win tonight," Burns said after the game. The veteran big man certainly played like that.

Burns had just 5 points to his name with 4 minutes to go in the fourth quarter. Then he hit a runner and netted a three-pointer to put his team up 76-73. Brescia needed to survive Ulm's three game-winning attempts for the game to go into the extra session and there it was Ulm that was ahead 80-82 with 1:18 to go. But Burns stepped up once again, first willing the ball through the basket for a tip-in and then adding a layup in the lane on the ensuing possession to make it 84-82. He added 2 free throws with 3 seconds to go to set the final score.

While Burns scored 11 of his 16 points in the last 4 minutes of the fourth quarter and overtime, Moss did the work on defense by slowing down Round 1 MVP Troy Caupain.

Caupain was red-hot in the first quarter, netting 12 points and dishing 4 assists, but Moss took over his defensive assignment after that and slowed Caupain down by pressuring him high and early. Moss rarely let him get out of his sight or reach. Ulm's playmaker scored only 6 more points and did not have another assist the rest of the way.

Such a great defensive effort from Moss and a clutch performance from Burns were the keys to Brescia's first win of the new basketball season.
