Virtus was über-efficient late to beat Monaco

AS Monaco came into the Group C showdown with Virtus Segafredo Bologna with the best defense in the 7DAYS EuroCup. But Virtus picked it apart, especially down the stretch, thanks to a magical Milos Teodosic.

Teodosic set his EuroCup career-high with 12 assists to lead Virtus's highly-efficient attack to the tune of a club-record 32 assists in a 94-85 victory - a whopping 28.3 points more than what Monaco allowed on average through the first three games.

In the end, the 33-year-old Teodosic showed he is still magical when it counts most.

Virtus in the second quarter couldn’t push its lead to double digits and then spent the first 15 minutes of the second half just trying to pull back in front. Monaco was answering every Virtus charge and led 70-76 with 5:37 minutes left in the game - a battle of undefeated teams atop Group C.

Enter Teodosic … and good night to Monaco. Virtus converted on its final 11 possessions of the game upon Teodosic's re-entry into the game. He pulled the strings and directed the show like an Oscar Award winner. He assisted on two Julian Gamble baskets, knocked down 2 free throws, fed Stefan Markovic for a three-pointer, hit 2 more foul shots, passed to Vince Hunter and laid in the final points of the game. All told, Teodosic was part of 15 of Virtus's final 24 points.

Of course, one player does not make up a team - and this was truly a team showing. Virtus ended up shooting 65.1% on two-pointers - after Monaco had held opponents to 42.9% on two-pointers in its first three games. Virtus showed the only thing that can stop its offense is itself - showing flashes of absolute dominance and the ability to score points in bunches, and that quickly.

Sure, Monaco gave Virtus a good fight, but in the end, it just could not come up with an answer for Milos Teodosic.
