Unicaja's Mekel out 3 more months

Unicaja Malaga announced on Sunday that Gal Mekel will be sidelined for three more months. The veteran point guard is suffering from a pulmonary thromboembolism, which was caused by COVID-19. As a result of the condition, Mekel will take a specific medication for the next three months and while he is on that medication, he cannot exert himself physically. The 32-year-old guard, who joined Unicaja at the tail end of last season, averaged 7.7 points and 3.0 assists in three regular-season games in the 2020-21 7DAYS EuroCup Regular Season. The timetable means that Mekel may miss the rest of the EuroCup season, with a slim possibility that he could return for the EuroCup Finals, if the team advanced to that phase.
