Herbalife Gran Canaria added another big piece into its frontcourt by signing center Ilimane Diop on a two-year deal, the club announced on Saturday. Diop (2.11 meters, 26 years old) has spent the last eight years with TD Systems Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz, after joining the club from UPV Alava in 2013. The Senegalese big man, who also has a Spanish passport and has played for Spanish national teams, has made 193 appearances in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague since then, and has averaged 3.1 points and 2.1 rebounds for his career. Interestingly, his arguably best performance came against Gran Canaria in January 2019, when he posted 13 points and a career-best 10 rebounds for a career-high PIR 25. He has helped Baskonia reach the 2016 Final Four, and three consecutive playoff appearances between 2017 and 2019. Diop also helped Baskonai win the 2020 Spanish League title, and last season in the Spanish League he posted 4.2 points and 1.6 rebounds. Diop is now set to make his 7DAYS EuroCup debut.
