Dmitry Kulagin rejoined his boyhood club over the summer together with his younger brother Mikhail to provide the spark that he has shown with several other Russian clubs over the years. Even though he played more minutes in the VTB League than the Euroleague during the season, Coach Itoudis was not afraid to use him when the need arose. He started at small forward and scored a season high 10 points in a Top 16 victory over FC Barcelona Lassa. Kulgain was called upon for brief defensive assignments in the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Championship Game in Berlin in the second and third quarters and the team did not skip a beat. Though the box score may only show his intentional foul on Jan Vesely, he stopped Fenerbahce center Ekpe Udoh in the post to help force a 24-second violation late in the second quarter. In total, CSKA outscored Fenerbahce by 6 points in 1:21 he played, which proved valuable in taking the title.
