Sergio Rodriguez received his award for a fantastic season when he was named 2013-14 bwin MVP at the EFES Euroleague Awards Ceremony held at Piazza Duomo. The ceremony was one of the first official acts of the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Final Four in Milan and saw the hierarchy of European basketball join together to celebrate the best of the past season before looking forward to this weekend’s games to crown a new Euroleague champion. Rodriguez was joined on stage by the rest of the All-Euroleague First Team, but the point guard basked in the most glory. Real Madrid teammate Rudy Fernandez, Alphonso Ford Top Scorer Trophy winner Keith Langford of EA7 Emporio Armani MIlan, Sonny Weems of CSKA Moscow and Ante Tomic of FC Barcelona Regal stood alongside Rodriguez as the All-Euroleague First Team.
Daniele Sano, head of sponsorship and event at bwin, presented Rodriguez with the bwin MVP trophy. Former Euroleague champion Riccardo Pittis took part in the ceremony and handed out the trophies to the All-Euroleague members. Langford also received the Ford Trophy, while representatives for 2013-14 Rising Star Trophy winner Bogdan Bogdanovic of Partizan NIS Belgrade and 2013-14 Best Defender Bryant Dunston of Olympiacos Piraeus collected those players’ awards. Both Dunston and Bogdanovic expressed their appreciation in taped messages.
"It's an honor to be here with such great players." Rodriguez said after accepting the bwin MVP trophy. Ii want to thank my teammates, my club, Real Madrid and the whole organization. It helped us a lot to be together many years. We know each other a long time. Now to get the Euroleague title is our biggest goal."
Following the ceremony, Rodriguez, Weems and Tomic remained and were joined by Devin Smith of Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv and the head coaches of the participating Final Four teams for the official Final Four press conference.
