FMP Zeleznik, the team with the best record in the ULEB Cup, proved why once again with a 77-83 victory at Oostende. Now 8-1, Zeleznik can clinch first place in Group B with a home win against Pivovarna in the last game of the regular season. Oostende, previously eliminated, fell to 1-8. For the first time in 9 games, the duo under the glass for Zeleznik was not so crucial and the scoring leader of the night was forward Reggie Freeman, who tallied 27 points, shooting in 5 of 9 threes-points. Ognjen Askrabic contributed with 19 points, Ivan Zoroski netted 11 and James Bryson added 10 others. Christophe Beghin had an excellent performance under the boards, pulling down 12 boards to add to 15 points for another double-double for the new Belgian star. Point guard Michael Hawkins added 14 and Ralph Biggs, back on the court after being sidelined for along period scored, 13 more for Oostende.

The game was balanced for all 40 minutes, with slim advantage reached by both teams and Telindus trying to give their fans the satisfaction to beat the best team in the league. But Zeleznik was not in Belgium just for a travel and played its usual full-court defense to put pressure on the point guards and limit the hosts to a short time looking for good otpions in the offensive end. With Freeman already on fire in the frst period, Zeleznik took a 15-20 lead at the buzzer. Oostende in the second perod increased its shooting percenatge and with Biggs finally back to contribute, tied the game at the break, 43-43. In the third period the duel between Beghin and Askrabic went on fire with spectacular plays but Ivan Zoroski and Sasa Bratic helped their teammate to take again a slim 63-68 lead after 30 mnutes. In the last period, both teams produced big efforts to reach the victory, but Zeleznik is in a golden season and was able to manage the score, mantaining until the final buzzer a small lead to take its eighth success.

Head Coaches

CASTEELS, EDDY
Ostend
"I cannot blame any of my players tonight. If we would have played every game like this, we would have qualified. I have great respect for my players even if this game was of no importance, they came out on the court with a big heart. In Valencia we will play the same way."
PETROVIC, ACO
FMP Belgrade
"We knew that it would be a hard game and we prepared the game well. First, it is the first game after the break and second, Oostende is a different team than the team we played in the first leg: Hawkins is a first class player and they now play the best fastbreak in the group."

Players

BIGGS, RALPH
Ostend
"It was a tough game. Everybody played hard. Many lost balls came into their hands and not ours (6-7) and that made a difference. Thats what we have to work on."
ASKRABIC, OGNJEN
FMP Belgrade
"We knew it would be a very hard game. It is not at all the same team that we played at home. We started the game very well and in the first quarter we brought their big men into foul trouble. In the end that foul trouble made the difference."
