Josh Asselin - Asefa EstudiantesAsefa Estudiantes had to wait until the final minute to secure the first Last 16 win at home against CEZ Nymburk by 87-80 in Group K. Nymburk was a constant threat to the hosts and even jumped in the lead several times, but a 5-0 run to start the last period and a decisive three by Sergio Sanchez allowed Estu to escape with the first win. Josh Asselin led the winners with his 20 points, Daniel Clark added 15, Nik Caner-Medley had 14 and Tyrone Ellis posted 12 for Estu. For Nymburk, Tre Simmons led the way with 16 points, Petr Benda and Pavel Pumprla had 15 apiece and Mike Lenzly chipped in with 14.

The first minutes of the game were a real shooting gallery as after four minutes the scoreboard was already up to 14-11. Asefa Estudiantes was taking a lot of shots thanks to offensive board opportunities while Nymburk was shooting with high accuracy. Josh Asselin was becoming a big threat for the Czech defense while Petr Benda led the charge of the guests to jump ahead, 16-18 in minute 6. After Pancho Jasen's three-point play, Estu was commanding again with a 22-20 but Nymburk didn't surrender as Benda scored again to close the first period with a 29-25 Estu edge. Nik Caner-Medley was the man for the hosts in the second quarter now as he was keeping his team ahead at a safe distance but Benda pulled Nymburk to stay in the game, 34-27 in minute 12 and then a 0-6 run for the guests to make it 34-33 as Pavel Pumprla joined the party. From that moment on, both teams stayed close to each other until they hit the lockerrooms with a 47-47 tie at the halftime break.

The third quarter was not as offensive as the first half as it could have been expected. Asselin was the main man for Estudiantes while Tre Simmons joined now Benda in Nymburk to maintain the guests alive. The good 2-point accuracy of Nymburk allowed them to stay in the game but the 17 turnovers were a big obstacle of which Estu took advantage to lead by five, 69-64 after 30 minutes. A 5-0 burst by Estu to start the last period put the hosts on a double-digit lead, 76-64, after Dan Clark's four straight points. A three by Mike Lenzly made it 80-75 entering minute 38 as Nymburk still had options for the game. However, a triple by Sergio Sanchez when Nymburk was only two points down, 82-80, sealed the deal for Estudiantes who had to suffer until the last plays to secure the first Last 16 win as Pumprla missed two free throws that could have kept the guests alive.
