Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv send a message that echoed all around the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague by downing reigning champion Fenerbahce Dogus Istanbul 82-73 at home on Thursday. Maccabi improved to 8-6 in the regular season, while Fenerbahce dropped to 9-5. Pierre Jackson led the winners with 20 points and Norris Cole added 19 for Maccabi. Jan Vesely paced Fenerbahce with 18 points, Ali Muhammed scored 12 and Nicolo Melli had 11 for the guests. Jackson and Art Parakhouski fueled a 15-2 opening run, which allowed Maccabi to hold a 24-13 margin late in the quarter. Muhammed rescued Fenerbahce with 7 points in a 2-12 run that brought the guests within 26-25. Cole hit a couple of three-pointers and added free throws to keep Maccabi in charge, 40-36, at halftime. Jackson took over after the break and a three-pointer by Cole restored a 58-46 Maccabi lead, which Fenerbahce cut to 60-54 after 30 minutes. Cole and Jackson remained unstoppable as Maccabi boosted its margin to 72-58 and cruised to a well-deserved and important win.

Jackson scored twice around the basket, DeAndre Kane hit free throws and Jonah Bolden took over with a three-point play for a 9-0 Maccabi lead. Fenerbahce was held scoreless for almost five minutes until Kostas Sloukas downed a floater. Parakhouski ignited the crowd with back-to-back dunks and Jackson added a floater for a 13-point Maccabi margin, 15-2. Vesely and Melli stepped up for Fenerbahce, but Alex Tyus and Yovel Zoosman kept Maccabi fully in charge at 24-13. A layup by Muhammed fixed the score at 24-15 after 10 minutes. Muhammed kept pushing Fenerbahce and got help from Melli and Vesely to bring the guests within 26-25, after a 2-12 run. Karam Mashour stepped up with a driving layup and Parakhouski added a jumper in a 7-0 run that Cole capped with a triple for a 33-25 Maccabi edge. Vesely scored down low and James Nunnally added a floater, but Maccabi kept running its offense through Cole, whose second triple gave his team a 40-33 lead. Muhammed answered from downtown to make it 40-36 at halftime.

Melli followed free throws with a tip-in to tie the game, 40-40, soon after the break. Parakhouski scored down low, Michael Roll added a jumper and a wild four-point play by Jackson gave Maccabi fresh air at 48-42. A floater by Bolden ignited an 8-0 run in which Jackson and Cole each struck from downtown for a 58-46 Maccabi margin. Sinan Guler and Nunnally joined the three-point shootout to keep Fenerbahce within 60-54 after 30 minutes. Cole scored again and Jackson followed a jumper with a layup for a 67-56 Maccabi lead early in the fourth quarter. Melli hit free throws, but Tyus dunked and Thomas added a layup that caused Fenerbahce to call timeout at 71-58 with six minutes left. Luigi Datome and Brad Wanamaker brought Fener within single digits, 77-70, but it was already too little, too late for the guests. A close basket by Cole sealed a big home win.

"It was an amazing night for us. I really want to congratulate our coaches and players for the preparation for this game. To win against Fenerbahce is always something important, but to do it like this is even more important. What I want to say is that we started to play defense and be aggressive from the first minute and we kept it until the last second of the game. I don't remember if they led in this game or were close, but that is very, very difficult, and I want to congratulate my players because coming after such tough losses against tough opponents on the road and showing that much personality is really impressive. I want to congratulate the group - we are going to rest now a little bit after this stretch and try to do the same together with our fans. I want to congratulate them, they were amazing today and helped us a lot. All together, we are able to do so many good things this year. There are no specific keys except the effort, following the preparations and being disciplined. The coaches did an amazing job preparing the game, I have a lot of basketball knowledge in my locker room, but if you are not disciplined and committed to do that, it creates a lot of mistakes, because you are playing against better teams or teams at your same level. To beat Fenerbahce, to have to do so many things well and players have to step up and shot how good they are, what they can do."

"We tried to prepare ourselves before the game for aggressive defense and the aggressive way Maccabi would try to play in the beginning of the game and it was like that. They played really tough, really hard. We gave them the opportunity to play the game that they like to play. It was really very bad how we looked in the beginning of the game. After that, we tried to come back and make it a normal game for us; they led by 4 at halftime. That was a reason to be more calm and try to play like a normal game. Some minutes only, we were able to do this and after that, we came back to the same picture as in the beginning of the game. Congratulations to Maccabi. I believe they played with a big wish and deserved to win the game. If my team looks the way it did tonight, practically one or two players tried to do something, me, as a coach, must think what we did wrong and try to help the team more. Honestly, I believe that, with all respect to Maccabi and the way we played, we played our worst game in the EuroLeague this year, without any question. We didn't recognize any situation, shot the ball really bad, everything was really very bad. If you watch the statistics over here, you see that they stopped us seven times, blocked shots. This means that you don't have enough concentration, and this is the result of the game."

"I think that we need every win we can get. Being at home, our crowd helped us a lot, it was huge. They played really hard and obviously, being away from home, we had some tough losses. Again, I just want to thank the crowd for coming out here and support us; they helped us a lot."
