
Lokomotiv Kuban defeated Stelmet Zielona Gora 96-87 in Group K to improve to 2-0 and take over as the group’s exclusive leader. Zielona Gora dropped to 1-1 with the loss. Lokomotiv used a 17-2 run that bridged halftime to take a 62-51 lead and Mantas Kalnietis extended it to 71-58 before Quinton Hosley led the visitors within 91-85 late in the game, but Lokomotiv never flinched. Simas Jasaitis led the winners with 21 points and 6 rebounds, Nick Calathes amassed 21 with 12 assists, Mantas Kanietis produced 20 points and 9 assists and Derrick Brown netted 12. Hosley posted 22 for Zielona Gora, Oliver Stevic added 15, while Walter Hodge and Dejan Borovniak chipped in 13 apiece.
Stevic opened the scoring with a huge dunk for the visitors before Aleks Maric and Calathes gave the first advantage to Lokomotiv, 4-2. Kamil Chanas answered from downtown, but a Maric slam assisted by Kalnietis made it 8-5. Hodge scored his first basket of the night to make it 8-9, then a quick 6-0 run for the home team with 5 points from Kalnietis increased the cushion to 16-11. Mantas Cesnauskis tied things at 16-16 from the foul line, before a triple by Hodge put Zielona Gora in front again, 18-19. Jasaitis with a layup and Sergey Bykov form long distance finished the first quarter at 23-19. A three by Hodge gave another lead, 23-24 to Zielona Gora, which Hosley and Stevic extended to 28-33. Brown’s slam tie the game before another Hosley dunk made it 33-36. The lead changed six time and the score was tied twice more before Hosley and Cesnauskis with a three-pointer and a layup and Jasaitis from mid range, fixed the score at 47-49 for the guests at halftime.
Four consecutive points by Calathes gave again a 53-49 advantage to Lokomotiv, and after a layup by Dejan Borovniak, 9 unanswered points for the Russian side gave them the first comfortable margin of the game, 62-51. Stevic and Rob Jones tried to keep their side close, 64-57, but a three by Kalnietis gave a double digit cushion, 71-58, to Lokomotiv. Stevic connected with Marcin Sroka to finish 71-60 after 30 minutes. Cesnauskis, Jones and Borovnjak fueled Zielona Gora to 76-68. Alexey Savrasenko scored form the free throw line, but Hosley from long distance drained a basket for 78-71 at the midway point of the quarter. A Kalnietis triple and Brown jumper raised again the difference to 89-76. Stevic and a dunk by Hosley put the visitors closer, 91-85, with 1.22 left. However Calathes hit a layup to finish a break and Jasaitis was perfect from the foul line scoring on 3 attempts to seal the 96-87 win.
