Khimki Moscow Region pulled out 86-91 overtime win away at Igokea Aleksandrovac, extending its win streak to 4 games on Wednesday. Win improved Khimki to 4-1, in a share of the first place in Group E, while Igokea dropped to 1-4 in the last place of the standings. Strong finish to the second quarter, and triples from Teddy Gipson and Sinisa Stemberger, helped Igokea to 41-32 halftime lead, but Khimki caught up immediately after the break, and led by Paul Davis and Mike Green took over 60-64 lead early in the fourth. Game went into a thrilling ending, and Uros Nikolic made an uncontested layup with 1.4 seconds to go in the regulation to force overtime. In the extra session, however, Petteri Koponen and Sergey Monia nailed triples before Khimki closed out the game from the free throw line. Davis finished with 22 points plus 7 rebounds, while Green had 17 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. Koponen netted 16 points with 5 steals, Kresimir Loncar scored 13, and Monia added 11 in victory. Nemanja Gordic had 14 points plus 7 assists, and Nikolic also scored 14 for Igokea. Uros Mirkovic collected 13 points plus 8 rebounds, and Stemberger netted 11 in defeat.
Loncar scored first 6 points for Khimki, and Davis followed it up with 6 consecutive points of his own, but Mirkovic got hot at the other end, stringing 7 points of his own for 14-14. Marko Popovic beat the buzzer at the end of the quarter for 17-18, but Stemberger hit a triple and Mirkovic had a basket-plus foul to put the hosts back in front at the start of the second. After Koponen nailed a three-pointer, cutting it to 27-26, the hosts pulled away as Gipson hit a triple and a jumper for 38-29. Dusko Bunic helped during the run, scoring twice from close range, and Stemberger closed out the half with a three-pointer for 41-32. After only three possessions in the second half, however, Khimki cut it to 41-40 as Monia and Green hit triples, and Green added a fastbreak basket. Another three-pointer from Monia, and a basket-plus foul from Loncar tied it at 48-48, but Igokea refused to relinquish the lead. Gordic assisted Milan Dozet and Mirkovic for back-to-back triples in a 7-0 run, and Gordic nailed a jumper himself, closing out the quarter for 58-52. But the visitors scored on five consecutive possessions in the fourth, as Davis strung together 6 points, before Green and Egor Vyaltsev scored easy fastbreak layups. Loncar’s basket made it 60-64 as Khimki’s defense left the hosts struggling on offense, but Bunic snapped the drought with layup before Gordic hit tough back-to-back jumpers, helping tie it at 67-67 with less than 2 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Popovic put the visitors in front with an off-balance jumper, but Nikolic made uncontested layup with 1.4 seconds to go in the regulation to force overtime. In the extra session, Stemberger nailed a triple for the hosts, but Davis hit all 4 free throws, and Green made a layup for 74-75. Koponen and Gordic traded threes, and things were back at the beginning after Nikolic’s tip-in, 80-80. But Monia answered with a three-pointer, and Koponen stole a ball for an easy fastbreak layup and 80-85 with 36 seconds to go, before the visitors sealed it from the foul line.
