Galatasaray Cafe Crown held off Hemofarm for an 86-71 victory in a top-of-the-table clash in Group C on Tuesday in Istanbul. Chris Owens led Galatasaray with 21 points on 10-of-11 two-point shooting and Dee Brown came through with 20 points plus 8 assists as Galatasaray improved to 4-1, joining Akasvayu Girona in first place. Akasvayu hosts Galatasaray in another big matchup next week in Spain. Meanwhile Hemofarm dropped to 3-2 and sits alone in third place. Next week it visits Spirou Charleroi in Belgium. The game was a back-and forth battle for the first 15 minutes, but Huseyin Besok stepped up midway through the second period and the team used a 10-0 run to take a 48-39 halftime lead. Owens carried Galatasaray in the second half as the team protected the lead till the final whistle. Robert Hite added 17 points and Besok posted 12 points and 8 rebounds for the hosts. Stefan Markovic led Hemofarm with 19, Nebojsa Joksimovic scored 18 points and dished 5 assists and Rawle Marshall scored 10 in defeat.

Marshall got things going for the visitors with a jumper, while Dee Brown answered with a skillful layup for Galatasaray. Hite hit a three-pointer from the left corner to give the hosts a 14-9 lead, but Markovic and Marshall led Hemofarm back to take a narrow lead, until Murat Kaya beat the first-quarter buzzer to make it 23-21. Nebojsa Joksimovic and Markovic fired up a 0-7 charge to put the visitors ahead early in the second period, but the topsy-turvy game saw Besok get Galatasaray back on top. Goran Jagodnik answered for Hemofarm, but then Brown, Hite, Erdem Turetken and Kaya Peker pieced together a 10-0 run and Hite buried an incredible triple at the halftime buzzer to give Galatasaray a 48-39 lead at the break. Markovic kept the hosts from extending the lead early in the third period, but Brown and especially Owens finally pushed the lead to 14. Joksimovic’s 4 points ended the third quarter at 68-58. Milivoje Bozovic got it within 8, but Owens's dunks and layups followed each other off of nice assists from Brown and Hite as the hosts dug in and held on for the victory.

Head Coaches

OZYER, MURAT
Galatasaray Cafe Crown Istanbul
"It was a game which became much more important affter we lost to Spirou Charleroi at home two weeks ago. The top three teams of our group have equal strength and it also made this win twice as important. And most probably it will help us to qualify for the next round. I am glad to say that by the end of January we will reach our aim to be a much better team as we planned. This game is a good reason to say that again. I congratulate all my players for their great effort in the game."

Players

HITE, ROBERT
Galatasaray Cafe Crown Istanbul
"From our point of view, it was a fantastic game which we all enjoyed beside all the stress of winning. We got the rebounds, made it through to fastbreaks and dominated the game mostly inside. We had a real good game in the paint and that made the differance for us. This is a good win and we hope to keep going on the same way."
KAYA, MURAT
Galatasaray Cafe Crown Istanbul
"It was an important win for us so that we ended up at number one position in the first half of our group games. The main thing was to challenge in the game and stay resistant and that's what we were able to do so. We are getting better every day as we are targeting to remain on top at the end of the group stage."
JAGODNIK, GORAN
Hemofarm Stada
"It was a really bad game for us in which we remained under average of our outside shooting percentage. Galatasaray was better than us especially in defense and they were also better in rebounds. Chris Owens played a great game and we weren't able to stop him. The worst thing from this loss is the big margin in the score at the final buzzer."
