Dwayne Anderson - BG Gottingen - Aris BSA 2003 (Photo Christian Reinhard)BG Goettingen laid down the law early on its homecourt to cruise Wednesday to an easy 74-55 victory over visiting Aris BSA 2003 in Group J of the Last 16. The victory pushed Goettingen's record to 3-1, tied for first place with Budivelnik. Both teams are very close to qualifying for the quarterfinals, while Aris fell to 1-3, alongside Le Mans, in the debut of new head coach Lefteris Subotic. A 13-0 blast-off to start the game established double-digit leads that Goettingen did not give up the rest of the way. Dwayne Anderson led four Goettingen scorers in double digits with 18 points. Louis Dale followed with 16, while Mike Scott and Jason Boone added 14 each. Boone doubled his fun with 11 rebounds. Aris managed to put only one scorer in double digits, Anthony Tucker, with 17 points.

Goettingen roared out of the gate and practically sentenced the game's outcome in the first 5 minutes. Anderson, Scott, Trent Meachum and Boone all scored in a scorching 13-0 run to open the game while Aris racked up 7 misses - including 4 three-point attempts - and 2 turnovers. Tucker finally broke the spell for the guests, but soon Goettingen had new scorers, John Little and Dale, upping the difference to 17-4. Anderson returned to finish what he had started with a layup to give the hosts a high lead of 15 points, 21-6, after 10 minutes. Dale and Anderson combined for a quick 7-0 run early in the second quarter to make it 28-8 before Nikos Hatzivrettas and Kostas Charalampidis got to the free throw line for Aris. Tucker soon joined them, but the best they could lower the difference to was 32-16 before Antoine Jordan, Mike Scott and Dale buried back-to-back-to-back threes to finish the half with Goettingen in total command, 45-20.

A pair of triples by Bobby Brown and Christos Tapoutos and 3 points the hard way by Tucker let Aris cut the gap to 51-31 midway through the third quarter. Dale was ready with a response, 5 points in a row to which Anderson added a layup to quickly establish Goettingen's biggest margin yet, 58-32. Scott bumped it up higher, to 18 points, before the third quarter ended 64-38 for the hosts. Aris went about trying to cut points off in the final quarter, just in case, following Tucker and Tapoutos on a 6-13 run to within 70-51. But by then there were only 3 minutes left, not enough to prevent Goettingen from feeling very good about its chances of advancing from Group J.

Head Coaches

PATRICK, JOHN
Goettingen
"I want to congratulate my team on this victory. Aris really has a huge frontcourt with former NBA players. Still, we were able to win the battle for rebounds. Defensively, we played a great game. Also, our intensity was very high. I am proud of my team. We now want to keep playing like this in the upcoming games in the Eurocup and German League."
SUBOTIC , SLOBODAN
Aris Thessaloniki
"I think we lost this game from the moment when we missed our first five shots. This caused stress and insecurity and that is why we only scored 20 points in the first half. I don't know all about the team yet. In the second half we tried everything we could. I think Goettingen scored about 15 points in the final two seconds of their respective ball possessions. Despite the loss, I am proud the team kept fighting even with the big point difference."

Players

BOONE, JASON
Goettingen
"This was really a big win for us. There wasn’t a single player on our team that didn’t believe a victory was possible, especially after our great comeback in Thessaloniki. We knew we had a chance with our home fans supporting us. When we play confident and play tough basketball we have a chance to beat every team in Europe. Now we want to keep the momentum on our side and take it into the domestic league games as well as into the final two games in the Eurocup Last 16"
CHARALAMPIDIS, KOSTAS
Aris Thessaloniki
"We lost this game in the first half. We tried to defend Goettingen well, but at the same time we could not find our offensive rhythm. We did not make the open shots. Congratulations to Goettingen. They played with a lot of heart and energy. For us, this Eurocup season is not over yet. We have a new coach and with his new philosophy we want to play successfully again."
