Deividas Gailius nailed a triple with 3 seconds to go in overtime, and Union Olimpija Ljubljana rallied from a double-digit deficit on the road to edge Cimberio Varese 82-83 in a wild game on Wednesday night. Win improves Olimpija to 4-2 in a share of the second place in Group C, while Varese joins Paris at the bottom of the standings with 1-5 record, and is all but eliminated from the race for the Last 32. The hosts used a 17-2 run to lead 25-10 after 10 minutes, but Olimpija rallied in the second quarter, cutting it to 36-34 at halftime. Early in the third, the visitors made a 0-13 run to grab the lead, opening up 38-49 advantage. However, Cimberio rallied back as Keydren Clark caught fire, hitting 3 three-pointers in the final 3 minutes of regulation. It was 71-71 after four quarters, and the hosts had win in their grasp, up by 2 and with possession with less than 10 seconds to go. However, Jakov Vladovic made a steal and fed Gailius for a game-winning three-pointer with 3 seconds to go in the extra session. Gailius scored 18 of his 31 points in the fourth quarter and overtime, and also grabbed 10 rebounds. Alen Omic collected 15 points plus 9 rebounds, while Nebojsa Joksimovic finished with 9 points and 5 assists for Olimpija. Clark finished with 23 points, Ebi Ere had 22 points plus 8 rebounds, while Aubrey Coleman netted 14 for the hosts.
The hosts opened the game in style, as Coleman made couple of basket-plus-fouls, while Clark and Achille Polonara each hit a triple. Coleman’s triple made it 21-6, as Omic was a lone scorer for the visitors. Olimpija, however, got it going in the second quarter. Couple of layups from Alex Stepheson, and the first three-pointer from Gailius cut it to 26-19. Coleman hit from downtown for Cimberio, but Jaoksimovic and Dragisa Drobnjak scored more triples for Olimpija, and Cederic Jackson made it 36-34 at halftime. Jackson and Gailius sparked the big 0-13 run early in the third quarter, and with a help from Drobnjak and Joksimovic, Olimpija grabbed 38-49 lead. Before the end of the third, Ere made four baskets, and Clark sunk a three-pointer, cutting it to 50-54 after three quarters. Two three-pointers from Gailius, and one from Sasu Salin, helped Olimpija to 56-65, but the hosts rallied in the final 3 minutes of regulation. Clark put on a remarkable show, on 4 consecutive possessions hitting couple of three-pointers, then a jumper, followed by another triple for 71-69. Jackson made a pair of free throws to send the game into overtime 71-71, and Ere opened the extra session with a triple. That turned out to be the only field goal for the next 3 minutes during which Gailius hit 5 of 7 free throws, and Omic made a layup for 77-78. Polonara raced for a fastbreak layup to put the hosts back in front, but Joksimovic drove to the hoop for 79-80 with 40 second remaining. On the ensuing possession Andre De Nicolao nailed a triple, his lone field goal of the game, to put Cimberio back on top. Gailius missed a jumper, and it seemed as the hosts will claim victory, but in the final 10 seconds of the game Jakov Vladovic made a steal, and fed Gailius for a game-winning three-pointer.
