In an all-German showdown, Alba Berlin pulled away in the fourth quarter to down Telekom Baskets Bonn 76-61 on Wednesday. Win improves Alba to 5-1 in a share of the first place of Group D, while Bonn dropped to 3-3 in a share of the third place. The visitors led for most of the first half, but Berliners caught up after the break, and led by David Logan and his two triples at the start of the fourth quarter, pulled away to a double-digit margin, 64-54. The hosts never relinquished the advantage as Logan paced them, sinking 4 three-pointers and finishing with 16 points. Levon Kendall had 10 points plus 10 rebounds, and Reggie Redding also netted 10 points in victory. Jamel McLean led Bonn with 15 points plus 6 rebounds, and Benas Veikalas scored 12 in defeat.

McLean got Bonn going early with 5 points, and Tony Gaffney hit a three-pointer for 6-10. Alba did not generate much offense, only mid-range jumpers from Alex King and Vojdan Stojanovski, plus a dunk from Jonas Wohlfarth. Meanwhile, a layup from David McCray and a jumper from Ryan Brooks helped visitors to 13-18 after 10 minutes. Bonn kept the lead until midway of the second quarter with more baskets from McLean, Gaffney and McCray and 22-27. However, the hosts found their rhythm through Uros Slokar inside, and Redding outside, before Logan sparked a 15-4 spurt. Stojanovski and King nailed triples, while Redding had couple of layups, and Alba held 37-33 halftime advantage. At the start of the third, a basket-plus-foul from McLean, and a triple from Veikalas put the visitors back in front. As teams traded leads, Logan had a layup and a triple for Alba, while Veikalas scored from behind the arc for Bonn. The hosts used buckets from Akeem Vargas and Jan-Hendrick Jagla for 56-52 after three quarters, and Logan hit couple of triples at the start of the fourth for 62-52. In the remainder of the final quarter, Logan added another triple, and Kendall scored 6 more points, putting the game out of reach.

Head Coaches

OBRADOVIC, SASA
Alba Berlin
"Though we had a little less intensity and made more mistakes than in the previous games I am satisfied with the way we took our chances at the end. This win gives us a good chance to get to the next round and that is where we want to be."
FISCHER, MATHIAS
Telekom Baskets Bonn
"We wanted to keep the game close as long as possible and managed to do that for three quarters. Alba did a good job in containing the head of our team, Jared Jordan. At the end we did not shoot well and so the loss became higher than necessary. We have to improve our defensive rebounding and minimize our turnovers."

Players

VARGAS, AKEEM
Alba Berlin
"We knew it would be a tough fight against Bonn and a game that would be decided in defense. But our coach prepared us well. We have won five games now, but still have a lot of things to improve."
JORDAN, JARED
Telekom Baskets Bonn
"Today we played well until late in the third quarter. Then we started to miss shots. But we also have to give credit to ALBA. They improved since the last game in Bonn."
