Besiktas Integral Forex rallied from 10 down in the fourth quarter to beat Spartak St. Petersburg 61-64 on the road Wednesday. Mehmet Yagmur scored the go-ahead three with less than a minute to go and then helped ice the win with free throws in the final seconds. Chris Lofton keyed the win with 11 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter. The victory left Besiktas atop the Group H standings with a 5-1 record, while Spartak dropped to 2-4. Yagmur finished with 17 points and 4 assists and Brad Buckman added 15 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Steve Burtt Jr. paced Spartak with 20 points and Jared Homan posted 13 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks in defeat.

Donnie McGrath and Homan each scored and assisted in Spartak’s 7-0 start. Burtt nailed a three that put the hosts up 14-6. Buckman helped keep the visitors in the game and closed the gap to 16-14 after 10 minutes. Lofton’s three-pointer tied the game at 21-21 early in the second quarter, but a Burtt three kept Spartak in front. Buckman free throws tied the game and put Besiktas ahead midway through the second. However a triple off the hands of Konstantin Nesterov made it 30-30 at halftime. Burtt’s third three gave Spartak the lead again to start the second half. Yagmur gave Besiktas a 38-39 edge with his first three, but Yaroslav Korolev set up Homan before sinking a three of his own for a 43-39 Spartak edge through three quarters. Burtt connected twice more from downtown before Homan gave Spartak its first double-digit lead, 51-41. A Lofton three sparked a Besiktas spurt that cut the gap to 4. Lofton added 2 more free throws before Buckman hit a three and Lofton scored again to even the game at 57-57. A Yagmur three put Besiktas up 59-62 with a minute remaining. Burtt free throws cut the gap to 1, but Yagmur connected twice from the line with 10 seconds to go. Burtt and McGrath both missed threes to tie the game in the closing seconds, allowing Besiktas to return home with the win.

"Besiktas missed some players in this game, but we didn’t win the game. We could have, but we didn’t score on the fast break four times in a row, we didn’t make the right decisions and the rival answered with point. I am very upset and surprised by how we can make such decisions that we made in crucial moments. We had the situation that we had in the previous games which we lost. We can’t take responsibility in decisive moments and have the game in our own hands. When we led 7 points, we had three good attacks where we had to score, but we couldn’t do it."

"First of all I’d like to say that Spartak is the only team which defeated us on our home court. We came here without some important players who got injures during our last game in the Turkish League. Because of this reason we kept the game in a low rhythm. We planned to keep the score around 60 points. We asked our players to make minimum turnovers and to minimize the number of possessions. We tried to find the right players to shoot. We kept discipline during the whole game. We didn’t do what we planned in some moments of the game. Spartak had the chance to win the game, but in that period Mehmet and Lofton played good individually and we were able to wipe away the difference. In the end we played with experience and smarts. When you miss players, you try to have chemistry in the team during the game."
