Darius Johnson-Odom turned in an impressive scoring night in leading FoxTown Cantu to an 89-63 victory over JDA Dijon to clinch a Last 32 berth. Johnson-Odom made 7 of 9 three-pointers en route to 31 points as Cantu improved to 4-5. Dijon, which had previously clinched a Last 32 ticket, slipped to 5-4. The hosts used a 9-0 second-quarter run to take the lead for good and reeled off 15 unanswered points in the third quarter to put the outcome out of reach. Eric Williams added 11 points for Cantu, which outrebounded Dijon 39-24. Kris Joseph paced Dijon with 13 points and Erving Walker added 12 in defeat.

Johnson-Odom scored the game’s first two baskets, but Andre Harris soon evened things at 4-4. A Johnson-Odom triple and Giorgi Shermadini free throws put the hosts up 13-8, but Walker kept Dijon close. Johnson-Odom scored his 10th points via his second triple less than seven minutes into the game. Joseph made it a 1-point game again and a jumper by Walker put 20-19 on the scoreboard after 10 minutes. Johnson-Odom’s third three came at the start of the second quarter. Steven Gray countered from downtown and Jacques Alingue gave Dijon its first lead, 23-24. Antoine Mendy put the visitors up 3, but Stefano Gentile tied the game with a triple. A Harris jumper gave Dijon a 28-30 edge midway through the quarter, but Johnson-Odom hit another three in a 9-0 run that Shermadini capped with 2 free throws. After a Walker jumper, 5 points from Damian Hollis gave Cantu its first double-digit lead. Mendy free throws made it 42-34 at the break.

Johnson-Odom started the second half with a basket plus foul. Mandy brought Dijon within 45-38, but Johnson-Odom hit a pair of threes and DeQuan Jones added 6 points in a 15-0 Cantu run. Joseph eventually ended the Dijon drought, but the Cantu attack continued to generate points. Gentile free throws left Cantu ahead 67-45 through three quarters. Joseph scored the first 4 points of the fourth quarter and later added a three to make it 73-56, but that was as close as Dijon got. Johnson-Odom pushed the lead to 80-56 with his seventh three and the lad reached 28 as Cantu celebrated the victory.

"I'm very happy tonight, and for many reasons. First of all, because we've got to the second round of this competition. The Eurocup didn't start in a positive way for us, it has been a long path along which we couldn't work with much continuity; but the effort we made led us to a great result. I'm also proud of the approach my guys had in this game. We managed to play on a high level, paying a lot of attention in every single minute and trying to obtain the goals we set. I'm particularly satisfied with Darius Johnson-Odom's performance, because he works hard every day and tonight he took the team by the hand and led us to this great victory. "

"I compliment Cantu for the great victory they gained tonight. We knew they were a strong team who needed to win in order to go on in this competition. We came here tonight officially qualified for the second round, so it wasn't easy for us to show a big performance against Cantu from the very beginning. We managed to play well in the first 17 minutes, then we suffered from the pressure Cantu showed for the entire game. We made many mistakes and couldn't counter the great performance of Johnson-Odom and his teammates."

"We are very happy we played the perfect game tonight, showing a great team cohesion and a concrete offensive and defensive game. Now that we have passed this turn, we must focus on doing our best to start the next round in the best possible way."
