Host club U18 Torrons Vicens L’Hospitalet completed a successful Euroleague Basketball ADIDAS NEXT GENERATION TOURNAMENT Qualifying Tournament – Torneig de Bàsquet Junior Ciutat de L'Hospitalet by beating former continental champion U18 FIATC Joventut Badalona 73-82 in overtime to clinch fifth place. Elies Velasco led the way with 15 points while Daniel Garcia collected 14 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals, both Carles Gimeno and Gerard Rodriguez scored 11 points and Nil Baques added 10 points. L'Hospitalet collected 2 victories in the tournament after having won the final game of its ANGT L'Hospitalet last season to snap a 20-game losing streak in the competition. The 2013 ANGT Finals champion Joventut claimed sixth place despite 18 points from Alejandro Galan while Josep Busquets had 16 points, Pedro Barros chipped in 12 points and 9 rebounds and Eric Gonzalez had 7 points and 14 rebounds.

Albert Simon and Gimeno gave L’Hospitalet the lead 0-4 to start the game. Joventut answered with the next 8 points before Rodriguez finally snapped a 4-minute scoreless drought for the host club with a three-pointer. Gonzalez’s basket made it 12-9 but Joventut failed score in the final 2 minutes of the first quarter while Joel Gomis got L’Hospitalet to within 12-11 after 10 minutes. Gomis’ next basket had L’Hospitalet ahead 12-14. After 2 ties, Joventut reclaimed the lead 18-16 on Busquets’ put-back. Gomis and Busquets swapped baskets as the lead switched back and forth before Quim Salvans’ three-pointer made it 24-21. Nenad Dimitijevic followed a short time later with a three-pointer for Joventut as the margin grew to 30-22. Two Vilgot Larsson free throws had Joventut ahead 32-25 at intermission.

Busquets opened the second half and pushed the lead to 34-25 and his next basket increased the margin to 38-27. The Joventut offense stalled over the next 3 minutes as Velasco scored 6 points in an 0-11 run to knot the game at 38-38. Eduard Garcia stopped the drought but Gomis completed a four-point play as L’Hospitalet was up 40-42. And the lead was 42-45 after Daniel Garcia’s three-pointer. Galan answered with the final 4 points of the quarter to put Joventut up 46-45. The cushion was 51-45 after two Eduard Garcia free throws and a Busquets three-ball. Pablo Fontanet finally scored for L’Hospitalet but Galan nailed a three-pointer to make it 54-47. Rodriguez answered with a triple of his own but Barros’s three-point play put Joventut ahead 57-50 with 6 minutes left. Joventut’s offense sputtered again without a point for nearly 4 minutes and Adria Martinez’s three-ball started an 0-9 run to lead 57-59. Joventut went back up 62-61 on Busquets’ three-pointer inside the 2 minute mark and Barros knocked down 2 free throws with 30 seconds to lead 64-61. Rodriguez made two free throws but Barros split his two leaving L’Hospitalet a chance down 65-63. Velasco was fouled taking a three-pointer with 2.1 seconds remaining and made the first two shots to even the game 65-65. But he missed the last and the game went to overtime. Barros started the extra session before L’Hospitalet hit the next 5 points. Two ties followed for 73-73 and then Joventut’s offense went ice cold yet again without a point in the final 2:27 minutes while L’Hospitalet got 6 free throws and a Velasco three-pointer to win the game.
