Red Star Belgrade picked up an important road win to start their Group F campaign, beating CEZ Nymburk 87-94 in overtime. Tadija Dragicevic scored 28 points and grabbed six rebounds while Omar Cook collected 21 points, seven rebounds and six assists in pacing the 2005 and 2006 ULEB Cup quarterfinalists to the victory. Elmedin Kikanovic made a basket in the closing seconds to even the game but missed the bonus foul shot to send the game to overtime, where Cook and Mirko Kovac hit back-to-back three-pointers and Cook made four foul shots to decide the game. The four-time reigning Czech champions used a big run in the first quarter for an early lead and played even with the Serb powers the rest of the way. But Muli Katzurin's team failed the experience in overtime. Radoslav Rancik had 28 points, 14 rebounds and two blocks in the loss, while Arthur Lee scored 20 points and Ladislav Sokolovky chipped in 19.

Boris Bakic's foul shots gave Red Star an 7-11 lead early. Lee scored seven straight points in leading an 18-4 run to finish the first quarter ahead 23-15. Cook drained back-to-back three-pointers in an 0-8 run to start the second. Sokolovky's basket made it 31-25 but the Serbians stayed with the Czechs and the game was even 41-41 at the break. Belgrade grabbed a 55-60 lead on Vladimir Tica's basket late in the third. And Cook extended the advantage to 57-63 going into the fourth. Dragicevic's foul shot made it 57-64, but Lee's three-pointer evened things again at 64-64. After Cook tied it at 77-77, Lee's two foul shots gave Nymburk the lead 79-77 only to see Kikanovic knot the game again. But he missed the bonus foul shot, sending the game to overtime. Both sides traded free throws in the extra session and Nymburk led 83-82. But Cook made a basket and then buried a three pointer, which was followed by another trey from Mirko Kovac, giving Red Star a 90-83 lead with less than a minute left. And Cook made four foul shots down the stretch for the win.

"Congratulations to Red Star. We are very dissapointed by the outcome of the first game. We had our chances to win this game but did not capitaize on them. I think the difference in the game was the 3-poiny shooting percentage. We made only 3 out of 17 mostly taking shots from beyond the arc that we should not have taken. I do not remember a game in my coaching career that a team that has such advantage in ranking loses the game. At the end of the game we had the victory in our hands but lost it on one possesion in a matter of seconds. But this is basketball."

"I think it was a great game played in a great atmosphere. I told my players to expect a very tough game against an experienced team. In the first quarter we played very bad defense but later on were able to pick it up. We had problems under the basket since our center did not have a good game today. Players on the perimeter thankfully played well on both sides of the court. Poor free throw shooting almost cost us the game. We played well in overtime and I think this was an important win for our young team. I think other teams that will come to Pardubice to face nymburk will not have an easy game."
