Buducnost Voli had a powerful start in Group H by thrashing PGE Turow 75-50 in Podgorica, Montenegro on Tuesday. Buducnost leads Group H but faces back-to-back road games against Alba Berlin and Dexia-Mons Hainaut. Nikola Vucevic paced the winners with 18 points. Jermaine Anderson added 16, Cedomir Vitkovac had 15 while Bojan Dubljevic got 12 for Buducnost. David Jackson led Turow with 9 points. An inspired Konrad Wysocki allowed Turow to get a 16-17 midway through the second quarter and a three-pointer by Daniel Kickert gave the guests their last lead, 28-29, right after the break. Anderson and Vucevic took over in a 10-0 run that gave Buducnost the lead for good, 42-31. Buducnost soon boosted its margin to 49-33 late in the third quarter and used outstanding defense to keep full control the game, allowing just 7 fourth-quarter points to get a convincing home win.

Both teams had a slow start, trading missed shot and turnovers until Vucevic scored around the basket. Back-to-back jumper by Bojan Krstovic and Vitkovac soon gave Buducnost a 6-0 lead. Turow went scoreless in the opening 6 minutes, missing 7 shots until Jackson stepped up with a jumper. Vitkovac kept pacing the hosts with free throws but consecutive layups by Jackson and Wysocki got the guests within 8-6. Vucevic took over with a dunk and a jumper by a red hot Vitkovac gave Buducnost a 12-7 margin after 10 minutes. Gedrius Gustas hit a jumper early in the second quarter and Aaron Cel improved Dubljevic's layup with a bomb from downtown that brought Turow even closer, 14-12. John Edwards hit a jumper and Wysocki joined the three-point shootout to give Turow its first lead, 16-17. Anderson split free throws and Vitkovac dunked it off a steal but Wysocki tied it at 19-19. Krstovic downed a three-pointer and a layup by Anderson restored a 24-21 Buducnost edge. Cel and Gustas allowed Turow to tie the game again, 26-26, but a jumper by Anderson fixed the halftime score at 28-26.

A three-pointer by Daniel Kickert gave Turow its last lead, 28-29, immediately after the break. Anderson and Vucevic stepped up with back-to-back baskets but Jackson scored again to keep the guests as close as 32-31. It didn't last long, however, as Buducnost improved its defense right when it mattered. Meanwhile, Anderson and Vitkovac fueled a 10-0 run that Vucevic capped with a layup to give the hosts a double-digit margin, 42-31. Edwards tried to change things with a jumper but Buducnost kept finding open shots. Vitkovac downed a triple, Krstovic hit a shot and Vucevic soon gave Buducnost a 49-33 margin. Kickert and Michal Jankowski tried to change things for Turow but only managed to bring the guests within 54-43 after 30 minutes. Dallas Lauderdale tried to ignite the guests' comeback early in the fourth quarter but Marko Popovic and Dubljevic soon allowed Buducnost to seal the outcome, 63-45, midway through the fourth quarter. Vucevic stayed unstoppable in the paint and downed a triple for a 24-point Buducnost lead, 72-48. A three-point play by Dubljevic already in the final minute allowed Buducnost to seal a very important win in style.

Head Coaches

RADONJIC, DEJAN
Buducnost VOLI Podgorica
"Congratulations to all my players for a very important victory. In this competition every victory and every point is very important and I am very satisfied with our start. I am not satisfied with the second quarter defense. We have to play better without missing open shots and so many turnovers. In the second half everything was much better. With more energy a lot of running and great confidence in offense we deserved a huge difference win."
WINNICKI, JACEK
PGE Turow
"I want to congratulate Buducnost and their coach for a well-deserved victory. In the second half they proved their class and defeated us. We didn’t manage to keep a strong defense from the first half into the second. Instead of reducing mistakes and not allowing easy points to the domestic players we played just as they needed. I have to say that we are not enough experienced for this competition having considered that is our first game after Turkish Airlines Euroleague Qualifying Rounds."

Players

POPOVIC, MARKO
Buducnost VOLI Podgorica
"The most important thing is that we opened the competition in Eurocup with a great domestic victory. Our aim is to win every game at home and try to do something more as visitors. So, we played a little bit confused in offense in the first half and didn’t materialize our great defense. After a strong locker room promise we played much better in second half and deserved great victory."
KICKERT, DANIEL
PGE Turow
"It was obviously a tough game. In the first half we played defense on appropriate level which we missed to repeat in the second. And our good offensive performance was not rewarded. Buducnost scored easy points from good defense and fast-breaks and won with a big difference."
