Teodosic shoots CSKA Moscow to victory in Munich

CSKA Moscow was on fire from long range in cruising to a 61-86 victory at Bayern Munich to improve to 4-1 in Group F of the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Top 16. Milos Teodosic nailed 6 of Moscow’s 13 three-pointers in scoring 24 points while Victor Khryapa knocked down 4 threes en route to 16 points. Teodosic nailed 3 threes in the second quarter alone as CSKA raced to a 23-40 halftime lead and never looked back. Nenad Krstic chipped in 14 points for the winners, who had 22 teams assists compared to just 6 for the hosts. Bayern dropped to 2-3 despite Malcolm Delaney leading the way with 16 points.

First quarter: CSKA effective in the paint, builds double-digit lead

Bayern coach Svetislav Pesic made two changes to his lineup with Lucca Staiger and Boris Savovic starting alongside Delaney, Robin Benzing and John Bryant. CSKA Moscow boss Ettore Messina swapped one spot with Kyle Hines coming back from injury and into the starting lineup for the second time this season with Teodosic, Vitaly Fridzon, Khryapa and Krstic. Khryapa started the scoring with a three-ball from the left wing and a basket inside before Benzing knocked down a jumper for Bayern’s first points to make it 2-5. Moscow continued to get the ball inside with Hines getting a basket and Krstic converting a three-point play for a 2-10 advantage. Bryce Taylor came off the bench for a triple but Sasha Kaun’s score off the bench pushed the lead to 5-14. Delaney was on target from long range for Munich but Hines dunked after an offensive rebound and then Teodosic drilled a triple from the right side and made two free throws as CSKA led 10-21. Thompson got on the board for the first time and Yassin Idbihi converted two free throws to trim the deficit to 14-21. But Vladimir Micov finished the first quarter with a jumper for a 14-23 Moscow cushion after 10 minutes.

Second quarter: Teodosic lights up Bayern from long range

Idbihi opened the second quarter with a jumper and Bryant went off the glass to get Bayern within 18-23. With the offense stagnating, Messina brought back Teodosic and Hines and the attack was much better with Jeremy Pargo getting to the basket for a layup, Teodosic draining a triple and Kaun scoring inside to push the margin to 18-30. Heiko Schaffartzik ended the mini-run with a jumper and Delaney knocked down a three-pointer to get to within 23-32. But Teodosic answered right back with a trey and nailed another long ball from the top of the circle to give CSKA a 23-40 advantage at halftime.

Third quarter: CSKA offensive back on cruise control with Teodosic back in

Staiger opened the second half with a triple and then Delaney hit Savovic on the break to cut the gap to 28-40, resulting in an immediate timeout from Messina. Teodosic continued his superb game with another three-pointer to make it 28-43. And Hines dished to Krstic for a dunk and a 29-45 advantage. Anothe Krstic dunk pushed the cushion to 33-50. Delaney made two free throws but Teodosic hit his first two-point shot and then Hines converted a layup for a 35-54 lead after having blocked Benzing at the rim at the defensive end. Khryapa and Fridzon both made two foul shots as the margin grew to 20 points, 39-59 late in the quarter. Taylor and Schaffartzik both hit two free throws but Khryapa ended the quarter with a triple for a 43-62 lead.

Fourth quarter: Khryapa leads late three-point barrage

After Khryapa started the fourth quarter with a long ball, Chevon Troutman got Bayern on the scoreboard with a put-back basket. Khryapa came back down at the other end and nailed a long three-pointer and then Fridzon got into the long range mood with a trey to make it 45-71. Micov added two free throws and then Teodosic wanted back in on the three-ball fun and hit his sixth triple for a 47-76 advantage. And the lead was 30 points - 51-81 - after another three-ball from Fridzon. Moscow took its foot off the pedal but Troutman and Delaney would not give up, combining for all seven points in a 7-0 run to cut it to 58-81 in the final minute.

" If you make a decision to play in the Euroleague and reach the Top 16, then you cannot expect things to go easily against teams like CSKA or Real or Maccabi. We know that we are not among the best teams in Europe. We wanted to take part in the Euroleague to see what we need to do to be better. We are not preparing our team to beat teams like CSKA or Real. We want to take advantage of games like these and we will profit from games like these. I was kind of surprised by CSKA tonight. I haven’t seen a game where Teodosic doesn’t make a single mistake. Khyrapa made all his shots. Krstic played great defense. All of the players from the bench caused us problems. But I am 100 percent certain that we can profit from these kinds of games. It isn’t fun to lose games like this, but everyone can see what we need to win against a team like CSKA or Real. "
MESSINA, ETTORE
CSKA Moscow
" It’s a very important win for us. We have enormous respect for what Bayern is doing. We knew they have a lot of weapons - rebounding, shooting ability and their aggressive defense. We knew we had to face all this. We played another team game. We decided before the game that we wanted to use two point guards on the floor at all times. Our big men also helped us a lot against their pressure. It was a good team effort. We are happy with the win. but we know there is still a very long way still in the season."

SAVOVIC, BORIS
FC Bayern Munich
" Everybody knows who CSKA Moscow are. They played a great game tonight. We tried to keep up with them, but we missed too many shots. This was probably our worst game this year. But we must learn from this game. We have to fight like CSKA and play every game hard and tough like CSKA. "
JACKSON, AARON
CSKA Moscow
" We shot the ball really well. Teo did a really good job shooting the ball. We found our shooters as much as possible and today we were on. We came in after the game against Madrid and we felt like we were going in the right direction. We wanted to keep it going. We’re playing really well right now. We’re playing really good defense. We’re trying to help each other on the help side and we’re rebounding the ball a lot better. "
