Teodosic shoots CSKA Moscow to victory in Munich
CSKA Moscow was on fire from long range in cruising to a 61-86 victory at Bayern Munich to improve to 4-1 in Group F of the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Top 16. Milos Teodosic nailed 6 of Moscow’s 13 three-pointers in scoring 24 points while Victor Khryapa knocked down 4 threes en route to 16 points. Teodosic nailed 3 threes in the second quarter alone as CSKA raced to a 23-40 halftime lead and never looked back. Nenad Krstic chipped in 14 points for the winners, who had 22 teams assists compared to just 6 for the hosts. Bayern dropped to 2-3 despite Malcolm Delaney leading the way with 16 points.
First quarter: CSKA effective in the paint, builds double-digit lead
Bayern coach Svetislav Pesic made two changes to his lineup with Lucca Staiger and Boris Savovic starting alongside Delaney, Robin Benzing and John Bryant. CSKA Moscow boss Ettore Messina swapped one spot with Kyle Hines coming back from injury and into the starting lineup for the second time this season with Teodosic, Vitaly Fridzon, Khryapa and Krstic. Khryapa started the scoring with a three-ball from the left wing and a basket inside before Benzing knocked down a jumper for Bayern’s first points to make it 2-5. Moscow continued to get the ball inside with Hines getting a basket and Krstic converting a three-point play for a 2-10 advantage. Bryce Taylor came off the bench for a triple but Sasha Kaun’s score off the bench pushed the lead to 5-14. Delaney was on target from long range for Munich but Hines dunked after an offensive rebound and then Teodosic drilled a triple from the right side and made two free throws as CSKA led 10-21. Thompson got on the board for the first time and Yassin Idbihi converted two free throws to trim the deficit to 14-21. But Vladimir Micov finished the first quarter with a jumper for a 14-23 Moscow cushion after 10 minutes.
Second quarter: Teodosic lights up Bayern from long range
Idbihi opened the second quarter with a jumper and Bryant went off the glass to get Bayern within 18-23. With the offense stagnating, Messina brought back Teodosic and Hines and the attack was much better with Jeremy Pargo getting to the basket for a layup, Teodosic draining a triple and Kaun scoring inside to push the margin to 18-30. Heiko Schaffartzik ended the mini-run with a jumper and Delaney knocked down a three-pointer to get to within 23-32. But Teodosic answered right back with a trey and nailed another long ball from the top of the circle to give CSKA a 23-40 advantage at halftime.
Third quarter: CSKA offensive back on cruise control with Teodosic back in
Staiger opened the second half with a triple and then Delaney hit Savovic on the break to cut the gap to 28-40, resulting in an immediate timeout from Messina. Teodosic continued his superb game with another three-pointer to make it 28-43. And Hines dished to Krstic for a dunk and a 29-45 advantage. Anothe Krstic dunk pushed the cushion to 33-50. Delaney made two free throws but Teodosic hit his first two-point shot and then Hines converted a layup for a 35-54 lead after having blocked Benzing at the rim at the defensive end. Khryapa and Fridzon both made two foul shots as the margin grew to 20 points, 39-59 late in the quarter. Taylor and Schaffartzik both hit two free throws but Khryapa ended the quarter with a triple for a 43-62 lead.
Fourth quarter: Khryapa leads late three-point barrage
After Khryapa started the fourth quarter with a long ball, Chevon Troutman got Bayern on the scoreboard with a put-back basket. Khryapa came back down at the other end and nailed a long three-pointer and then Fridzon got into the long range mood with a trey to make it 45-71. Micov added two free throws and then Teodosic wanted back in on the three-ball fun and hit his sixth triple for a 47-76 advantage. And the lead was 30 points - 51-81 - after another three-ball from Fridzon. Moscow took its foot off the pedal but Troutman and Delaney would not give up, combining for all seven points in a 7-0 run to cut it to 58-81 in the final minute.
