Unics Kazan held on for a tough road win at Banvit Bandirma 71-79 to remain undefeated and clinch a berth in the Last 32. The Group G leaders became the first team to advance from the group thanks to a strong team effort, led by Andrew Goudelock with 22 points. Unics never trailed, but Banvit stayed close throughout the game. In the end the visitors had the right tools to improve to 7-0, while dropping Banvit to 3-4. Kostas Kaimakoglou added 14 points, Tywain McKee scored 12 and Nikos Zisis amassed 10 points and 8 assists for the winners. E.J. Rowland collected 19 points and Chuck Davis had 16 points and 7 rebounds to pace Banvit.

McKee lifted Unics early with a three-pointer before Sammy Mejia netted Banvit’s first bucket. Goudelock gave the visitors a 4-9 lead, but Davis’s tip-in capped a 6-0 response. It was tied at 13-13 when Vladimir Veremeenko heated up with 4 quick points and Kaimakoglou drilled a three for Kazan. Rowland’s three-pointer kept Banvit close, 16-20, after one quarter. Kazan continued its control with the first 7 points of the second quarter; a McKee triple made it 16-27, capping a 3-14 run. Cevher Ozer answered with a Banvit three before Keith Simmons drew the hosts within 6. Back-to-back threes by McKee and Zisis put Unics up by 12. Davis free throws and a three-point play by Erkan Veyseloglu made it 30-36 at halftime. Davis remained strong after the break with three baskets within three minutes to make it 38-40. A Goudelock three pushed Unics’s advantage to 7. Rowland carried the hosts within 3 only to see Veremeenko counter with a basket-plus foul and before long Kainakoglou had Unics up by double figures again. After Klemen Prepelic and McKee traded threes, the third quarter ended at 49-57. Four points from Davis followed by an Ozer three brought Banvit within 56-57. Zisis struck from downtown midway through the fourth quarter to put his team up 6. Baskets by Kaimakoglou and Goudelock made it 63-72 inside of two minutes. Banvit fought on till the end, but Unics managed to match the hosts’ points and hold on for the tough road win.

"First of all congratulations to Unics. They played better and deserved to win. It was expected from our side after two emotional and hard game against Fenerbahce and Galatasaray that we were gonna have such a start. But as I said to the players at halftime, it was not a bad result for us. We all agreed that we could still win. But unfortunately we didn’t. We fought and came twice within 2 points, but that moment they made some big shots. They are a good team and are undefeated in the group. We didn’t manage to win. But nothing is lost for us. We have important games in the future. We can move up and qualify in this group."
