Real Madrid took the first step to repeating its title at the ADIDAS NEXT GENERATION TOURNAMENT at L’Hospitalet by breezing to a 38-69 victory over host club CB L’Hospitalet in the opening game of action in Group A. The 15-year-old Luka Doncic stood out for Madrid with 10 points and 10 rebounds while Domagoj Proleta scored 11 points, Samba N’Diaye picked up 10 points and seven rebounds, and Santiago Yusta chipped in 10 points. Real, which was the finalist at the Finals last May in Milan, out-rebounded L’Hospitalet 52-25 and held the home side to just 20% shooting from the field. Marc Ruf and Pau Alquezar were L’Hospitalet’s leading scorers with eight points.

L’Hospitalet took its only lead at 3-2 while Yusta tallied six points in helping Real build a 3-12 lead. It was down to 7-12 before Madrid finished the quarter on a 1-12 run to lead 8-24 after 10 minutes. Proleta nailed a three-ball to increase the advantage to 8-30. Alquezar hit a triple, but Madrid scored the next six points and the host team could only get as close as 21 points - 18-39 - on another Alquezar three-pointer. The Madrid margin was 20-43 at intermission.

Madrid opened the second half with the first six points and L’Hospitalet finally scored on two Albert Simon free throws with 5:39 minutes left in the third quarter to make it 22-49. The game was long decided by then and Madrid did not let the overmatched opponent get closer than 27 points the rest of the quarter, which ended with Real up 26-53. Madrid held L’Hospitalet scoreless for the first five minutes of the fourth quarter and extended the lead to 26-50 before Carlos Malagon’s free throw trimmed the gap to 33 points. The host team would not get closer than 31 points the rest of the game and Madrid pushed the advantage out to 37 points.
