In a high-scoring showdown, Artland Dragons Quakenbrueck grabbed its second win in Group A by edging Cibona Zagreb 101-96 at home on Wednesday. Artland improved to 2-6 and still had slim chances to advance while Cibona dropped to 1-7 and is out of the Last 32 race. Brandon Thomas paced the winners with 27 points. David Holston added 22 while Guido Grunheid had 14 for Quakenbrueck, which downed 18 three-pointers, two shy of the Eurocup's all-time record - Unics Kazan buried 20 triples against Besiktas ColaTurka Istanbul on November 24, 2009. Andrija Zizic led Cibona with 27 points on 11-of-17 two-pointers and 11 rebounds. Jerel Blassingame added 20, DJ Strawberry had 16 while Matt Janning got 14 for the guests, which rallied from a 16-point deficit to get within 94-91 in the next-to-last minute - but didn't get closer.

Three-pointers by Thomas and Holston gave Quakenbrueck an early 8-6 lead. Cibona run its offense through Zizic, who scored down low, added free throws and hit a jumper. Blassingame soon gave the guests a 13-14 edge. Cibona kept hitting free throws - 23 without misses in the first half - and a three-pointer by Strawberry gave his team a 17-23 lead. Holston and Kenneth Fraise made Quakenbrueck tie the game, 23-23, after 10 minutes. Janning shined early in the second quarter but Acha Njei and Anthony King gave the hosts a 32-28 margin. Thomas took over with 7 unanswered points which boosted Quakenbrueck's lead to 39-30. Triples by Thomas, Njei and Holston made it a double-digit game, 48-37. Zizic and Marko Jagodik brought Cibona a bit closer, 53-47, but Grunheid nailed a buzzer-beating three-pointer to fix the halftime score at 56-47. Lawrence Hill and Holston struck from downtown in an 8-0 run which broke the game open, 64-49. Janning and Blassingame tried to change things for Cibona but Grunheid followed a dunk with a triple for a 79-63 score, enough for Quakenbrueck to keep an 82-71 edge after 30 minutes. Zizic took over early in the fourth quarter, bringing Cibona back in the game, 85-78. Thomas and Holston struck from downtown for a 93-82 lead with over 4 minutes left. Blassingame and Strawberry took over to get Cibona as close as 94-91 but King and Thomas allowed Quakenbrueck to keep a safe edge in the final 2 minutes.

Artland Dragons Quakenbrueck
"I'm glad we won, that is the most important thing. But I am not satisfied with the way we won, because we didn't play defense. It was two teams playing offense out there. We had a good offensive showing. But this is not how we want to play, we need to play more defense."
RIMAC, SLAVEN
Cibona Zagreb
"The Dragons played a good game. We were risking the three-point shots and they were a little lucky that they made those. Also, some players that usually don't score that much, scored today. The Dragons were the better team today."
